Expository Essay

A big problem in our society today is that we tend to pay attention to things for a short amount of time which causes things to remain the same and the problem to remain unsolved. Some examples of this happening are things such as school shootings, bombings in Syria, and the school walkouts. They have relevance for a week or so and then they tend to drift off.

One thing that happened that everyone forgot about and isn't as known anymore is the school shootings. The school shooting in parkland was the one that got attention for the longest because of the movement they started. The thing most people don't know is that there have been more school shooting then weeks this year and I am talking about school shootings that have casualties or wounded people. No one knows this because of the lack of attention. All of the 23 school shootings that happened this year no one talks about it after 2 weeks. Some of them don't even get put on the news because no more than 10 people died.

After the Parkland school shooting, some kids decided to make a protest to have gun control. This was a popular movement that students participated in by walking out of class. This was an act of protest that was planned by the people who run the Never Again movement. It didn't really change anything. They wanted to stop the NRA and they wanted to have strict gun laws. They got half way and got strict gun laws in some states. After a week they didn't have as much media attention as much as when they started.

The bombings in Syria killed about 2,300 children because their president wasn't able to do the right thing. This shows that the wrong decision can cause the lives of many people. The civilians are the ones that have suffered taking the hits for the leader and the amount of people who were killed was to many. In Conclusion, the lack of attention that Americans give to these problems is a big problem. This is also the reason why nothing gets resolved or gets changed. The list goes from bombings to shootings to movements. We should have a longer attention span to actually get things resolved and get them done and make a safe and friendly environment were kids aren't scared to go to school or kids aren't scared to visit a place because it isn't safe.
