Persuasive Essay
Climate change is a very important topic to discuss. Not everybody has been talking about climate change, but some people are starting to realize what is happening. Climate change is one of the many problems the world has. Climate Change has many solutions. Climate Change is the change in the climate patterns. Climate Change is impacting people right now because many people have experienced ice in Antarctica melting, extreme storms, and global temperature rise. This issue can impact people in the future because even though climate change is already affecting people in the world already, climate change can get progressively worse each year. Reforestation and the eradication of pollution are two possible strategies that must be employed in order to stem the impact of climate change upon our planet.
Many people have been strongly impacted by climate change. One of the main reasons why climate change has impacted the ecosystem and us humans is because the ice in Antarctica is melting at a very fast rate. According to skepticalscience.com, "Perhaps the most dramatic change of all has been in Arctic sea ice. Satellite measurements are available back to 1979 and reliable shipping records back to 1953. September sea ice extent has shrunk by 35% since 1979." Global temperature has also been a factor of climate change. This has impacting not in a good way. What's happening in the world is that people are getting emitting greenhouse gases into the air which traps the heat. Global temperature is going to be increasing in the future if we don't do anything. According to "insideclimatenews.org", it says, "Earth's temperature is rising, and it isn't just in the air around us.
More than 90 percent of the excess heat trapped by greenhouse gas emissions has been absorbed into the oceans that cover two-thirds of the planet's surface. Their temperature is rising, too, and it tells a story of how humans are changing the planet." As the temperature is rising that means that the ocean is absorbing all that heat and when the ocean absorbs all that heat, the ice from Antarctica is probably being undermined because of the ocean warming. The last reason why climate change has been impacting us is the extreme storms that climate change is bringing with him. Storms can cause death, serious injuries, and sickness. According to nca2014.globalchange.gov, "As the world has warmed, that warming has triggered many other changes to the Earth's climate. Changes in extreme weather and climate events, such as heat waves and droughts, are the primary way that most people experience climate change. Human-induced climate change has already increased the number and strength of some of these extreme events. Over the last 50 years, much of the U.S. has seen increases in prolonged periods of excessively high temperatures, heavy downpours, and in some regions, severe floods and droughts." As you can see climate change has made storms even more powerful than they were.
Even though this issue is impacting people right now it can impact people in the future. Climate change is going to get progressively worse than what it is. More intense heat waves and longer periods of droughts. More extreme storms getting stronger every year. According to www.worldwildlife.org, "Sea levels are rising and oceans are becoming warmer. Longer, more intense droughts threaten crops, wildlife and freshwater supplies. From polar bears in the Arctic to marine turtles off the coast of Africa, our planet's diversity of life is at risk from the changing climate. Climate change poses a fundamental threat to the places, species and people's livelihoods WWF works to protect. To adequately address this crisis we must urgently reduce carbon pollution and prepare for the consequences of global warming, which we are already experiencing." If climate change keeps on going animals might become endangered, even worse, extinct. Nobody wants that about animals. It also says on www.ucsusa.org, "Dangerously hot weather is already occurring more frequently than it did 60 years ago-and scientists expect heat waves to become more frequent and severe as global warming intensifies... While hurricanes are a natural part of our climate system, recent research indicates that their destructive power, or intensity, has been growing since the 1970s, particularly in the North Atlantic region... Wildfires are increasing and wildfire season is getting longer in the Western U.S. as temperatures rise. Higher spring and summer temperatures and earlier spring snowmelt result in forests that are hotter and drier for longer periods of time, priming conditions for wildfires to ignite and spread." All of these things I just named will intensify in the future if we keep on going like this.
Even though climate change is getting stronger and stronger there are many solutions to it. One of the many solutions is reforestation. As we grow trees back the trees will be able to soak in the carbon dioxide in the air releasing some of the heat trapped from the greenhouse gases. Trees are like sponges. On the website of www.wwf.org.uk, it says, "Forests are vitally important as they soak up carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas responsible for global warming, and help regulate the world's climate." So if we keep on cutting down trees or burning trees because of global warming we are not going to have something soak up the greenhouse gases up in the air. Another solution is to limit the damage caused by the power plant pollution. The EPA has put up a rule called Clean Power Plant. According to www.ucsusa.org, "Until now, power plants have been allowed to dump unlimited amounts of carbon pollution into the atmosphere - no rules were in effect that limited their emissions of carbon dioxide, the primary driver of global warming. Now, for the first time, the EPA has finalized new rules, or standards, that will reduce carbon emissions from power plants. Known as the Clean Power Plan, these historic standards represent the most significant opportunity in years to help curb the growing consequences of climate change." There are many solutions, but these solutions are ones that I think are the most effective.
Critics might argue that animals can adapt and so can plants, but according to skepticalscience.com, "Global warming will cause mass extinctions of species that cannot adapt on short timescales." What this is pretty much saying that in a short period of time they will become endangered or extinct. Some animals can adapt faster than the others. The animals and insects that cannot adapt in a short period of time will die and become extinct.
Even though climate change is getting harder and harder to handle, climate change can be solved. Many people think that once climate change gets strong there is no way of stopping, but I say that climate change can still be reversed even when it is at its peak. Climate change can get even worse in the future.
